2019 01 22 • PRSF New Music Biennial Commission
Happy to announce that I have been commissioned by Leeds’ Opera North to create a new work for the PRSF New Music Biennial happening in London and Hull, UK this summer.
The work is titiled “Requiem for the 21st Century” and will be presented in the form of an installation inspired by the rich history and myth surrounding the oud. This immersive sound installation, created from a collection of broken and decaying ouds, will play acoustically recorded microtonal notes in generative patterns, creating metamorphosing melodic fragments and fields of sound based on different maqams, the modes of Arabic music.
