2018 11 05 • Kawalees: Part II to premier at CTM Festival 2019

It’s an honour to share that I’ll be premiering Kawalees: Part II, the second installment of my new solo project, at the 20th anniversary of Berlin’s CTM Festival in 2019.

Kawalees: Part II continues my work in exploring contemporary and novel approaches to Arabic music and the Arabic maqam system, this time using a hybrid virtual/acoustic Piano.

The premier will take place at HAU1 on 31 Jan alongside Rabih Beaini and Pouja Pour-Amin Ensemble.

I’ll also be in conversation with Julia Tieke on 2 Feb discussing my work, the piano and microtonality in Arabic music as part of the festival’s program of talks.

And to dive deeper with both events, I will be contributing a lengthy article to the CTM Festival magazine about microtonality and the cultural assymetries in music technologies, accompanied by a curated playlist.

Many thanks to festival director Jan Rohlf for his curiosity, support and encouragement to make all this happen. It’s super exciting to be able to share so much.
